Pleasing to see we were walking again 1st May - Froghall basin where Percy got to in 2017 on my retirement cruise
2nd May and it was 'hiding' my bricklaying. In my defence I bricked up the window in the winter wet and cold a few months ago. It was difficult to access due to the oil tank. The rambling rose appreciated the extra hand holds and looked nice over the summer months.
The local Sparrow Hawk was getting interested in the birds on our feeders May 4th
We were over in Heanor looking after Benjamin for the afternoon later the same day. Here we are catching gold fish in a puddle under Heanor band stand.
On the 5th I was off on a little jaunt to North Wales. I'd never really done the Llyn peninsular so I booked into a pub in Criccieth for a couple of nights. Had some superb riding and good weather. Culminated in skinny dipping in a small lake in the middle of nowhere - which is why I like this bike it takes you to the middle of nowhere.
Ticked off the steepest road in the world while I was over Harlech way - 40% it was almost like a ride from Alton Towers !
I called at Norbury for Tea on the way back, late afternoon it was quiet, just an older fella and his lady who were bikers and we had a good chat.
On the 10th May I like many others were treated to the Northern lights locally. I drove up to Ipstones Edge and marvelled at this free spectacle.
Earlier in the day our youngest son had called by, Emma his wife was very pregnant. Callum likes polaroids hence the grainy 1970 style picture (taken on a polaroid camera)
A bit lower down walking onto the Leek arm of the Caldon canal via Cheddleton on the 11th May. A nice walk and a nice drink in the pub at Densford
12th May am we were walking the canal again in the valley, nice and dry'ish
We then went over to house/cat sit as Callum and Emma's addition was on the way. George Eric, my dad was George Wells so quite emotional to have another George being spoken of again.
14th May we were back in Chinley to meet George in person, he's a smasher as they say
The sun setting over the Roaches on our way home from Callum's. The A53 between Buxton and Leek has some very different and beautiful scenes
16th May we were at the boat getting her ready to go to be blacked at Overwater marina in Audlem. The welcome not so good as it was pinging down and the boat had maggots up the side and on the roof... Cause was a dead pigeon between the boat and the armco - good job I'm a fisherman, it might have been a horrid job for some removing the maggots.
Next day we were off for a lovely cruise to the top of the Audlem flight
Another fine day to descend the flight to get into Overwater in time for them to slip Percy.
We left Percy in the hands of the team there and on the 21st May I visited my old boss in his beautiful new home near Tutbury.
The weather could not have been all good as on the 22nd May we had the stove lit !
Same day over with the grandsons for playing - they are very funny lads
We got a call from the boat yard due to the bad weather ( see stove lit above) they were behind on blacking Percy so we said no rush and the dates we'd set for the return cruise we used to have a break back over at Criccieth this time together in the car. We took a punt on a B&B and booked it same day, the owner was pleased for the business as he upgraded us to the sea view !
We took the opportunity to look at static caravans while we were over there. A lot to like apart form the 'fees' and the depreciation on the vans.
The B&B - we would stop there again
Last day of the month and we are back on Percy ready to take her back to Shebdon. The new inverter is Fubarr'd. Seems the Ecoflow battery's internal charger must spike demand for its charge whatever level its set to that blows something on the Inverter. - More on that later
Percy waiting on the Audlem visitor mooring for our return after shopping - The return takes us into June and birthdays and more travel
So Wales twice, Percy cruised twice, another grandson but interestingly not much by way of DIY!
